LIVE IN THE DENVER AREA?
Walking According to the Spirit We currently (Spring/Summer 2011) are meeting at Southeast Christian Church on Friday mornings. We are studying, discussing and arguing the finer points of Warrior Walking! We start at 0600 (we have coffee) and we wrap up by 0745. We will soon start meeting outside near a creek--so drop us a note before you come so you arrive at the right spot!
These book studies usually last a few weeks, sometimes meeting on Saturday mornings early so we can get to our weekend duties, and are limited to small cadres of 15 or less. We meet wherever we can get coffee.
These studies lean clearly and absolutely towards a Christian, biblical worldview. But—big BUT here—we do not exempt nor exclude guys from any faith system or no faith system. We have some really enjoyable and honest conversation around why we think like we think, why we believe what we believe and the limitations and definitions around our faith systems. So—if you are squeamish about being honest in what you think about your faith or lack thereof—you might want to do something else with your Saturday morning.
Oh yeah—we don’t ever ask guys to read out loud as a part of our experience. Generally we read in the privacy of our own “reading rooms” and then at the study we supplement with movie clips, hand held visual aids and other fun stuff. So—if you aren’t cool with reading out loud in a crowd—you’re cool with us.
Caleb’s Heart focuses on helping men experience God. One of the fun ways we’ve discovered to achieve full masculine humor, conversation and authenticity is through studying a few select books. We don’t indulge in Shakespeare —no offense intended. We haven’t found a huge hoot in reading Walt Whitman or Bill O’Reilly—although they can be entertaining.
Nope- we dig into some literature (calling it that is probably a stretch) that men seem to really rally around. Our intent is to explore the nature of God in men and how He would have us live our lives in such a way that we have adventure while being about His purposes and Kingdom “stuff.” We aren’t really into the Oprah model of weep some, read some, weep some more—no offense intended to women who love Oprah books. But if you’re a guy into Oprah books—uh—you probably shouldn’t join us for our book studies. Too much red meat here. Here are a couple of the books we enjoy:
- Wild at Heart by John Eldredge
- The Call of the Yukon by Robert Service
- The Way of the Wild Heart by John Eldredge
- Leadership Wisdom from Unlikely Voices: People of Yesterday Speak to Leaders of Today by Dave Fleming
